3D Printer Streaming Solution Unlocks Webcam Features
Reticulated faced the challenge of monitoring his 3D prints via streaming video without the supported cameras typically used with OctoPrint. Rather than resorting to a basic network-connected camera setup, he sought a more integrated solution. In his quest, he uncovered hidden features in affordable webcams.
To achieve his goal without additional hardware purchases or overloading the printer’s limited resources, Reticulated leveraged his existing cameras with RTMP support. This allowed for a relatively simple setup with YouTube Live once Monaserver was configured to handle the RTMP feeds and OBS Studio was set up to stream to YouTube. Additionally, he utilized the OctoPrint API to retrieve real-time data such as extruder temperature, which could then be overlaid onto the streaming video.
By combining these tools and techniques, Reticulated successfully created a streamlined solution for monitoring his 3D prints via live video streaming, showcasing the power of integrating existing hardware and software resources.
