3D Navigator for Blender
meisterodin1981 has ingeniously crafted a DIY alternative to high-end CAD workstations’ SpaceMouse using readily available components. This custom device, designed for use with Blender, employs an MPU6050 accelerometer and a spring, complemented by additional buttons for enhanced functionality.
At the heart of the device is a Teensy 2 microcontroller, chosen for its ability to serve as an HID device. However, any controller capable of emulating an HID device could potentially fulfill the role. To ensure a polished finish, the device features a meticulously designed 3D-printed case, with printed plates housing a 3D printer bed spring to facilitate Z-axis movement.
One of the standout design features is the routing of wires through the center of the spring to connect to the encoder, emphasizing the importance of tidiness in the assembly process. With its DIY ethos and cost-effective components, this project offers an accessible alternative to commercially available SpaceMouse devices, making sophisticated CAD functionality more attainable for enthusiasts and professionals alike.
