YouTuber Builds Onewheel With Tracks Instead And It’s Not Great
In a whimsical twist on the traditional one-wheel concept, RCLifeOn has transformed the standard wheel into a track, adding a touch of hilarity to the mix. This novel adaptation builds upon the sensor and control technology of the original, maintaining stability and balance, but with a comically unconventional approach.
Originally conceived as an electric snowboard, the project evolved into a tank-inspired one-wheel design. While tracks offer inherent stability compared to wheels, balancing control becomes unnecessary due to the track’s static stability. The 3D-printed track assembly, powered by a robust brushless motor through a gear drive for added torque, promises an intriguing ride experience.
However, the reality of riding the track-based one-wheel proved challenging. Operating at 48 volts, the sheer torque easily throws off the rider, making control elusive. Lowering the voltage to 24 volts provided some semblance of manageability with practice, but the overall experience remained far from ideal, oscillating between stationary and jerky movements that rendered navigation a tricky endeavor.
