Maker and developer JustFPV1 has crafted an impressive, custom-engineered Nerf blaster called Stinger, using the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller. His creation, described as the “world’s most advanced Nerf blaster,” has been meticulously developed over several months and features remarkable functionality. Accordingly equipped with a dual-stage brushless drivetrain, Stinger achieves over 200 FPS, with near-instantaneous firing response times of less than 100 milliseconds and the ability to detect jams.
Stinger also boasts a high-tech user interface, featuring an HD screen for setting adjustments, navigable via joystick. Users can store up to five profiles on the blaster, making it easy to switch between preferred settings. JustFPV1 built the blaster’s body from scratch, using durable materials like brushed aluminum for heat dissipation and carbon fiber for the stock, offering a customizable structure that supports different mounts and mods. Notably, the screen is designed to be easily removable, adding to the blaster’s adaptability.
The RP2040 microcontroller powers a custom PCB that integrates all hardware components, including the motors and an IR gate for magazine load detection. For added safety, the blaster includes a gyroscopic sensor to prevent accidental firing when it’s aimed down or upwards.
