The Purdue Hackers, led by Jack, wanted a visually engaging logo sign for their makerspace to capture and celebrate their collective identity. Known simply as The Sign, this project represents the spirit of making something cool and sharing it with the community. Starting small, they created a few prototypes before scaling up to a larger version for the makerspace window. This journey wasn’t without challenges; they ran into budget constraints and PCB errors that could have stalled the project, but the team powered through.
Equipped with LEDs and 3D-printed elements, The Sign ultimately came together as a “shining monument” to the Purdue Hackers’ enthusiasm and creativity. Throughout the process, the team documented their work, reflecting on setbacks and triumphs alike.
To inspire others and encourage further exploration, they made The Sign’s design files available on GitHub as open-source resources, inviting the community to build their own iterations of this dynamic display.
