Arduino Turned Into Something Kinda Like A Pager
João Santos embarked on a nostalgic journey to revive the pager experience with the help of an Arduino-based system. Utilizing an Arduino Uno paired with an HD44780 LCD display and a Wemos D1 equipped with WiFi connectivity, he recreated the essence of a pager in a modern context. The Arduino manages the display while the Wemos D1 connects to a web application, enabling users to send text messages remotely.
The setup operates seamlessly as users access a designated website powered by the OutSystems platform to compose and send messages to the pager-like device. Upon submission, the message is transmitted to the Wemos D1 via WiFi, which then relays it to the Arduino Uno through I2C communication. Subsequently, the message is displayed on the LCD screen, delivering a classic pager-like experience in the digital age.
Although the system may seem a bit elaborate, João opted for this configuration for expediency in setting up the project. By leveraging readily available hardware and web technologies, he was able to swiftly bring his vision of a modern pager to fruition, providing a unique and nostalgic communication experience reminiscent of a bygone era.
