2024 Business Card Challenge: Make Them Shake Your Handiwork
Before COVID, people traditionally sealed their introductions with a handshake. Nowadays, that activity seems questionable. However, you can still give them something to shake with this persistence of vision (POV) business card created by chaosneon, which displays your credentials in blinkenlights form.
The POV business card uses a tilt switch for input. When the user shakes the card back and forth, the sensor detects the direction and cadence of the shake. The pattern plays forward on the swing and backward on the backstroke, enhancing the POV effect. The card adjusts its timing to match the user’s shaking speed, so there’s no need to worry about the speed of your shake.
The first version of the POV business card used individual white LEDs, hand-soldered to an ATtiny2313 microcontroller. In the updated version, [chaosneon] has switched to using an RGB NeoPixel strip, which simplifies the design by requiring only one data wire to connect to the microcontroller. This change allowed for a downsizing to an ATtiny85, making the device more compact and efficient.
