Your Cat Needs Its Own TV
In a heartwarming endeavor to reciprocate the joy cats bring to our lives, Becky Stern embarked on creating a personalized entertainment hub for her feline friend, Benchley. Dubbed the “cat TV,” this ingenious project features a Raspberry Pi, a speaker, and a 5″ HDMI LCD display (7″ HDMI LCD Display), perfectly sized for feline enjoyment. Assembling the cat-puter was straightforward, but Becky added her creative touch by designing a 3D-printed enclosure to transform it into a TV-like structure.
The initial enclosure design, crafted from marble-effect filament, impressed aesthetically but lacked practicality. Recognizing the need for ventilation and preventing curious paws from interfering, Becky refined the design with a honeycomb pattern, ensuring adequate airflow while keeping Benchley’s inquisitive nature in check. To address accidental pauses caused by feline interactions with the touchscreen, Becky implemented a simple yet effective solution by replacing the USB cable with a charge-only variant.
The heartwarming highlight of the project lies in the delight Benchley expressed while engaging with the cat TV. Captured in a charming build video, Benchley’s enthusiasm as he explored the digital realm for cats and squirrels within the box is a testament to the project’s success. Through this thoughtful creation, Becky not only entertains her beloved pet but also inspires others to find innovative ways to enrich the lives of their furry companions.
