This pocket-sized Raspberry Pi 5 PC is portable and modular
The Raspberry Pi is a versatile platform for building custom mini PCs, offering flexibility in case design, size, and peripheral support. Recognizing this potential, the team at Soulcircuit developed “Pilet,” a modular Raspberry Pi 5-based project. Pilet aims to be a pocket-sized PC that offers a modular experience, with options for adding components like game controllers and keyboards, providing users with a customizable computing device.
Currently, Pilet is still in development, so its final form and features are not yet set in stone. Soulcircuit has already created an engineering prototype and is aiming to keep the device’s price under $200. The project focuses on providing a fun, flexible user experience, making it an appealing choice for enthusiasts looking for a portable and adaptable computing solution.
The Pilet is powered by a Raspberry Pi 5 and is equipped with two 8000mAh batteries, offering an estimated battery life of around 7 hours. Although the exact materials for the case are unclear, it features a metal back and incorporates passive cooling with a fan. It also includes an NVMe SSD for storage and has the capability to support a Hailo-8L module for AI applications, enhancing its functionality.
While the prototype showcases Raspberry Pi OS, the flexibility of the Raspberry Pi platform allows for other operating systems like Kali Linux or RetroPie to be installed. Soulcircuit aims to incorporate open-source tools into the project, although specific details are still limited. Interested users can sign up on the Pilet website to receive updates on this innovative modular PC project.
