These custom Chucks are smokin’ hot kicks
Custom sneakers have become increasingly popular among shoe enthusiasts, offering a unique and personalized touch to footwear. While Payless may offer a limited selection of shoes, customizing sneakers allows individuals to express their creativity and style. Among the most popular canvases for customization are Converse Chuck Taylors, which provide ample space for painting and embellishments. However, one creative technologist named Tigris Li took customization to new heights with her innovative Chuck 70s Smoke Shoes, which emit clouds of smoke as the wearer walks.
The Chuck 70s Smoke Shoes feature a complex apparatus that resembles something out of a mad scientist’s laboratory. This apparatus is designed to release a puff of smoke when pressure is applied to the sole of the shoe. Li also customized the soles of the shoes using 3D printing technology, giving them a sleek and angular appearance. Additionally, the shoes are equipped with force sensors that trigger the smoke production mechanism.
The technology behind the Chuck 70s Smoke Shoes involves Arduino Nano ESP32 boards installed in each shoe. These boards monitor the force sensors in the soles and activate a relay when the pressure surpasses a certain threshold. The relay then allows power to flow through a heating coil, which burns smoke machine fluid stored in a tiny flask attached to the shoe. This process results in the expansion of the fluid, creating the distinctive clouds of smoke with each step.
