Rpi media Centre – What is Kodi ? How to set it up ? Find out below !
Kodi
Kodi is media center software which runs on Raspberry Pi. LibreELEC, a Kodi distribution is included in the Raspberry Pi imaging tool for easy download.
Uses:
- play media files,
- configure the system, and
- install add-ons to add more functionality.
You can get started by having a look at our blog post about setting up your Raspberry Pi for the first time. When you get to flashing your SD card you can simply select to flash LibreELEC instead of RPiOS.
If you do not want to make use of Kodi and instead simply want to stream your favourite subscription streaming service:
Netflix, DSTV Now, Showmax, HBO MAX, Disney +, HULU etc etc
We finally have official WideVine support in the Raspberry pi OS on the Raspberry Pi! Also works for the Pi 400.
What is WideVine and why do I care?
Widevine is a proprietary digital rights management technology from Google used by the Google Chrome and Firefox web browsers, Android MediaDRM, Android TV, and other consumer electronics devices. This is needed to watch any paid streaming subscription. In the past, the Raspberry Pi has no official support for this. In other words we were not able watch Netflix on a Raspberry Pi. Now it is just a simple install.
Finally to install, run the following command on your Raspberry Pi terminal
curl -fsSL https://pi.vpetkov.net -o ventz-media-pi sh ventz-media-pi
After entering the command, you will see some text telling you that “Your Pi is now Ready for all Media” and that it’s time to reboot.
