Launching a high-altitude balloon involves numerous considerations, and streaming video from such a venture can be particularly challenging. A recent post by scd31 provides insights into tackling this issue, complete with real-time video footage captured during the launch.
The video is encoded using a Raspberry Pi 4 with H264 encoding, and the MPEG-TS stream is transmitted down using 70 cm ham radio equipment. If you’re interested in replicating this project, you can find the necessary software, including flight and ground code, available online. The software covers the Pi, an STM32, and includes the essential packages for the ground side.
