Solar E-Ink Weather Station Works on Dark Days, Too
Despite the cold winter weather in Germany, rsappiawf is enjoying monitoring the gradual changes in temperature as spring approaches using their new solar-powered E-ink weather station. Powered solely by solar energy, the weather station has been providing updates for over a week, thanks to its ESP32 S3 Mini brain.
To optimize power consumption, rsappiawf made several modifications to the ESP32 S3 Mini, such as removing the integrated RGB LED and upgrading the voltage regulator. Additionally, they integrated a TPL5110 power timer breakout module, which activates the device periodically based on a set potentiometer value, further conserving power.
The weather station demonstrates its functionality in a brief demo, showcasing its sleek design and 3D-printed holder. Despite the winter doldrums, rsappiawf finds joy in observing the weather changes and harnessing solar power to operate their weather station.
