Printed Centrifugal Dust Separator Stays on Budget
Dust motes swirling like miniature tornadoes – a woodworker’s familiar foe. Enter Tim of Pilson Guitars, tired of battling sawdust and dreaming of cleaner air. Centrifugal dust separators, knights in shining sheet metal, promised 99% particle banishment, but their hefty price tag made his wallet wince. So, Tim, armed with his trusty Prusa printer and 100 hours of dedication, embarked on a DIY quest.
Out of clear PVC, a valiant separator was born. Its whirling impeller promised to fling dust from the air like a medieval catapult, leaving only fine particles to fall prey to a loyal HEPA filter. Alas, the initial test revealed a champion less than invincible. Its filtration languished near a measly 90%, even with a second separator joining the fight. This dusty duo, while valiant, would choke the HEPA filter in no time.
Defeated but not daunted, Tim heeded the online battle cries and returned to the drawing board. New blade designs aimed to spin a tighter vortex, and a serial setup to tighten the dust’s noose. Yet, cunning air currents found alternate escape routes, leaving Tim rethinking his entire strategy. He has thrown down the gauntlet, releasing his design files like a rallying cry. Who will answer and help forge the ultimate DIY dust slayer? The battle rages on!
