Play Giant Tetris On Second-Floor Window
Maarten found himself in an ideal situation to create a giant playable Tetris game using an awkwardly-sized window in his second-floor apartment and his existing Tetris novelty lamp. His goal was to make the game easily accessible to passersby on the street.
To achieve this, he decided to build most of the project in the browser. He started by designing a NES-inspired controller in JavaScript, which could be used on any touchscreen device. He also created a simulator display in the browser to verify functionality before working on the physical display.
The actual Tetris display was constructed using addressable LEDs arranged to match the size of the original game. As with any complex project, there were challenges to overcome, particularly with getting the controller to work on Safari for iPhones. However, Maarten persevered, creating an engaging and interactive street-side Tetris game.
