How Thermal Post-Curing Resin Prints Affects Their Strength
Stefan from CNC Kitchen embarked on a meticulous scientific endeavor aimed at dispelling the myth of resin 3D prints‘ inherent brittleness. Contrary to conventional wisdom, which often relies solely on UV light for curing resin prints, Stefan delved into the impact of temperature on the curing process. By subjecting test parts to a range of curing conditions, including temperatures up to 80 ºC in addition to UV exposure, he sought to explore the potential benefits of thermal post-curing.
The results of Stefan’s experiments, particularly with the Siraya Tech Blu resin cured at 80 ºC, were illuminating. Not only did the prints exhibit impressive tensile strength, rivaling that of FDM-printed parts, but the process also demonstrated an annealing effect that significantly enhanced mechanical properties. Despite a minor decrease in impact strength, the overall improvement in tensile strength underscored the value of thermal post-curing in resin printing.
