Multi-filament printing expands the creative possibilities of 3D printing, and the “8-Track” system by Armored_Turtle is designed to enhance this capability by allowing seamless switching between eight different filaments. This modular system features individual dryboxes for each spool, each with its own filament feeder, connected to the 8-Track changer via pogo pins for both power and communication. Although initially used with a Voron printer, the 8-Track is designed to be easily adaptable to other printer models. Its modular design also means it can be reconfigured to handle more or fewer filaments as needed.
Armored_Turtle has not yet publicly released the design, but there are plans to make it available on GitHub. The actively-heated drybox filament cassettes are a notable feature, promising better print performance and reliability by maintaining optimal filament conditions. This setup marks a significant improvement over traditional filament storage and handling methods.
