In the realm of pet doors, CES introduces an innovative solution from Flappie: an AI-powered cat door designed to reject lifeless offerings, such as dead mice, that cats often bring home. The door operates with a motion sensor and a night-vision camera on the exterior side, utilizing Flappie’s “unique and proprietary” dataset to distinguish between actual prey and inanimate objects with over 90% accuracy. Flappie collected videos of cats and prey in various lighting conditions to train the system.
The AI cat door also includes a chip detection system to prevent entry by other cats. For added control, the prey detection system can be deactivated, and manual switches on the inside allow users to lock or unlock the door as needed. Surprisingly, the device does not require an internet connection, and users have the option to bypass automation entirely.
While the AI cat door is set to launch in Switzerland and Germany initially, there is no specific information about the U.S. launch date. The estimated price for interested buyers is around $399. The technology behind this cat door offers a unique solution for pet owners dealing with the unexpected “gifts” their feline friends may bring home.
If you aren’t looking to drop a hefty amount of money then we’ve got the project for you, the project designed by CriticalQuestion uses an infrared sensor to detect his pets which in turn activates a motor with a threaded rod to slide the door open! PiShop has plenty projects like this such as a doorbell that senses when a cat meows.
